Two systems can produce different outputs without either possessing agency in any strong sense. Variation can come from prompts, retrieval, topic, infrastructure, or chance.
The stronger idea of a branch begins when a difference changes the next situation. One participant receives a qualification; another does not. One pair shares a distinction that can be reused; another pair builds a different local history. The paths no longer contain exactly the same possibilities.
That is a reason to investigate, not evidence that Study 002 agents possess human agency or have developed stable identities. Which divergences merely add noise, and which ones alter what a developing system can do next?
